Hurly-Burly of Timaru Events in November
23/10/09
November will be full of “hurly-burly” in Timaru as three major events are promoted under one marketing banner by Central South Island Tourism and Timaru events company Special Events Aoraki Limited.
The Timaru Festival of Roses, Phar Lap Comes Home and the New Zealand Hat and Hair Art Awards events, all taking place between November 20-29, are being promoted under an advertising banner inviting potential visitors to “get into the Hurly-Burly” of Timaru events over the period.
“With three unique and different event programmes running concurrently during a 10-day period, we needed a focal point for event advertising and promotion,” says Central South Island tourism manager Katerina Tiscenko.
“While these events are well known locally, we need to raise profile outside the region. Using one banner for the three events will enable us to get as much attention as possible through a variety of media channels, including print, online, email broadcasts and social media websites.”
Special Events Aoraki Limited events organiser Chris Thomas sees potential in the new marketing approach to attract a wider audience to Timaru during the November events.
“There is so much going on during the extended Rose Festival period, Timaru can offer a fantastic short break for the wider visitor market. Online marketing enables us to put systems in place to track the level of interest and gauge how effective this new approach is. If it proves successful, we can build on it for next year’s festival programme.”
