Timaru & Temuka

Timaru (originally 'Te Maru' - 'place of shelter') is the Central South Island's main service centre. During the summer months this seaside city heats up with visitors flocking to the central sandy swimming beach of Caroline Bay and the annual Caroline Bay Carnival. North of Timaru, Temuka boasts some of the world’s best salmon and trout fishing, and is well-known for the stylish ceramic kitchenware produced by Temuka Homeware.
