About The Coromandel

The stunning Coromandel Peninsula is one of New Zealand’s favourite summertime destinations.

Simply Stunning

With kilometres of coastline, infinite beaches and coves, and countless bush-clad walkways, the Coromandel is a holiday playground. The Pohutukawa-lined coasts are great for relaxing on the beach or strolling along the shore. Further inland a rugged mountain range provides excellent hiking, with the Pinnacles walk one of the most popular.

Old Gold

Thames, the region's largest town, is lined with 19th century buildings - remnants of the gold-mining boom the area once experienced.

Waihi, also built for mining, still has a working gold mine in operation today, whilst through the Karangahake Gorge, walkers enjoy viewing remnants of mining days gone by.

Outdoor Playground

With its abundant coastline and rolling rainforest, The Coromandel is a great place to get out and explore. Surfing, diving, kayaking, snorkelling and fishing are all popular pastimes in the area, along with bush walking amongst the hills and bird-watching at the Firth of Thames
