Te Anau

The resort town of Te Anau is the main hub for visitors to Fiordland and the surrounding National Parks. As well as its proximity to Milford Sound (a pretty 2.5 hour drive away), Te Anau offers shopping, eateries, lake activities, farm tours and short bush-walks as well as a range of great accommodation.

How do you get to Te Anau?

  • Travel by Plane
    • Te Anau Airport, which is serviced by scenic and charter flight operators, is located eight minutes’ drive out of town.
  • Travel by Train
    • There are no train services to Te Anau.
  • Travel by Bus
    • Transport between Queenstown or Invercargill and Te Anau can be easily arranged with any national or regional bus network. Tour operators also transport visitors from Te Anau to Milford and Doubtful Sounds regularly.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • There are limited rental car options in Te Anau. However, nearby Queenstown and Dunedin both offer a wide range of rental vehicle outlets.
