How do you get to Taumarunui?

  • Travel by Plane
    • There are no air services to Taumarunui. Nearby Taupo Airport serves the region with daily Air New Zealand flights to and from New Zealand's major hubs. The airport is located about 1.5hours’ drive away from Taumarunui.
  • Travel by Train
    • Taumarunui can be reached on The Overlander train, which runs frequently between Auckland and Wellington and back.
  • Travel by Bus
    • Taumarunui is serviced by most major inter-city bus networks travelling between Palmerston North and Auckland. Several scenic tour buses and passenger shuttles also provide transportation to Taumarunui.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • There are limited rental car options in the Ruapehu region. Nearby Taupo offers multiple options for rental cars and motorhomes.
