North Island Ski Areas

Mt Ruapehu in the central plateau is the North Island's premier skiing destination. An active volcano, Mt Ruapehu is home to both Whakapapa and Turoa - the North Island's only commercial ski areas, offering an expanse of varied terrain - as well as the smaller club area of Tukino, located on the mountain's eastern side.

On the western side of the North Island, perched on Mt Taranaki, Stratford Mountain Club provides a different experience entirely, with fewer people and the community feel of a small club operation.
