How do you get to North Canterbury?

  • Travel by Plane
    • North Canterbury does not have its own commercial airport. However, the region can be accessed within an hour's drive from Christchurch International Airport.
  • Travel by Train
    • The popular Pacific Coastal train journey travels through North Canterbury on its route between Christchurch and Picton. The train stops at Waipara as required.
  • Travel by Bus
    • North Canterbury is very accessible to visitors travelling by bus, tour or shuttle bus. Many of New Zealand's national bus networks will pass through and drop passengers at small towns in the North Canterbury area.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • Car rentals and motorhome hire are limited in North Canterbury. Most visitors will pick up their rental vehicle in either Christchurch or Picton before travelling through North Canterbury.
