About Marlborough

New Zealand’s largest and most renowned wine growing region, Marlborough is also a producer of top seafood and a place of astounding beauty – from the stunning coves and inlets of the Marlborough Sounds to the unbridled inland sheep stations of the Awatere Valley.

Picton & Marlborough Sounds

Many visitors enter Marlborough from the northern port-town of Picton.  Purpose built to service inter-island ferry commuters, this sleepy town bursts into life in the summer months and during peak ferry times.

Close by, the stunning Marlborough Sounds, comprising Queen Charlotte, Pelorus and Kenepuru Sounds - is a popular holiday retreat boasting unspoilt bush-clad islands and secluded coves.

Hundreds of miles of coastline make this an exceptional boating region, with many lodges and holiday homes only accessible by sea. Eco-tours are also popular, with predator-free Motuara Island a great birdwatching location.

Blenheim, Renwick & Marlborough Wineries

Inland, Blenheim is Marlborough’s major town and gateway to the sprawling Marlborough Wine Region.  With an international reputation, Marlborough is particularly renowned for its Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling varieties, and boasts over 30 major vineyards, with over 42 cellar doors which you can visit!
