About Kaikoura

Marine activities are the backbone of this seaside town, with everything from dolphin and whale watching to fishing and surfing. Walking tracks, vineyards, horse treks, scenic flights & Maori cultural tours are also available. And of course, you've got to try a crayfish!

Marine activities are the backbone of this seaside town, with everything from dolphin and whale watching, to swimming with seals, kayaking, snorkelling and surfing available for visitors. A rare and complex marine system creates a rich habitat for marine life, including whales, seals, dolphins and pelagic seabirds. The town's history lies in whaling (not the watching variety!) and relics of this past can be found around the township.
