How do you get to Hauraki Gulf?

  • Travel by Plane
    • Various small airlines operate commercial as well as scenic flights between Auckland and islands such as Waiheke and Great Barrier in the Hauraki Gulf.
  • Travel by Train
    • There are no train networks on any islands in the Hauraki Gulf.
  • Travel by Bus
    • Waiheke Island offers scenic bus tours, as well as bus tours of the Island’s wineries. Great Barrier Island operates shuttle buses to transport visitors around the Islands, and several companies offer scenic tours.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • There are three main rental car companies on Great Barrier Island. However, due to its proximity to Auckland, many visitors rent vehicles there first and board a vehicle ferry across to one of the islands.
