The main centre of Fiordland is Te Anau, a pretty lakeside town and gateway to the Milford and Doubtful Sounds.  With tourist accommodation and all the important amenities, Te Anau is a great base to begin your explorations.

How do you get to Fiordland?

  • Travel by Plane
    • Fiordland has one airport - Te Anau Airport - which is serviced by scenic and charter flight operators. Dunedin, Invercargill and Queenstown all have nearby airports (each within 2 hours’ drive) with regular domestic and international arrivals.
  • Travel by Train
    • There are no train services to Fiordland.
  • Travel by Bus
    • Multiple coach tours, buses and tour shuttles transport visitors to Fiordland daily. Transport between Queenstown or Invercargill and Te Anau can be easily arranged with any national or regional bus network.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • There is a very limited selection of hire cars and motorhomes in Fiordland. However, nearby Queenstown and Dunedin both offer a wide range of rental vehicle outlets.
