Fairlie is a pretty farming town at the Mackenzie region's eastern gateway. As well as a selection of rural attractions (think farmstays and A&P shows!), Fairlie offers some excellent outdoor recreation opportunities including fishing, hunting, hiking and skiing.

How do you get to Fairlie?

  • Travel by Plane
    • There is no commercial airport in Fairlie. The closest commercial airports are Timaru Airport (50 minutes’ drive), Christchurch International Airport (2.5 hours’ drive) and Queenstown Airport (3.5 hours’ drive).
  • Travel by Train
    • There are no train services to Fairlie.
  • Travel by Bus
    • Fairlie is well serviced by a number of shuttles, buses and tour bus operators. Most operators will pass through Fairlie on their trips between Christchurch and Queenstown.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • Fairlie has no vehicle rental outlets so it is advisable to pick up your motorhome or rental car in Christchurch, Queenstown or another South Island arrival hub beforehand.
