Near to Pleasant Point are several historic Maori Rock Art sites, as well as Hanging Rock - one of the few places where New Zealand's long-tailed bat resides.
Hop in to Waimate
Close to Geraldine is Waimate, known for its wallabies and strawberries; an odd combination, but both big attractions in their own right. Whilst wallabies can be viewed in captivity in town, the animals are considered a pest by locals and year-round wallaby hunting is popular. In fact, wallaby pies are a specialty of the local tearoom! Strawberries also draw hundreds of visitors to Waimate each December for the Waimate Strawberry Fare – a summer celebration of the strawberry.
