About Auckland

Known as the 'City of Sails', Auckland’s maritime heritage is alive and well.  Previous home of the America’s Cup yacht race, the city’s Waitemata Harbour is a year-round haven for yachts and leisure craft. With a number of islands scattered around the Auckland isthmus, including the beautiful Waiheke Island and volcanic Rangitoto, opportunities for harbour cruising are numerous.

Auckland city's diverse cultural make-up is apparent in its restaurants, events and unique attractions. Head to the Otara Markets in South Auckland for a taste of Polynesian Culture. Explore the Auckland region and learn of its history on a Maori heritage tour. Or celebrate with Auckland at Pasifika Festival, the Chinese Lantern Festival, Diwali Festival of Lights or Matariki - the Maori New Year.
