Located on New Zealand’s largest active volcano, Whakapapa Village is an exciting ski resort with several accommodation options. Ski season runs from late-June to mid-November, but summer activities like scenic chairlift rides and hiking are also available.

How do you get to Whakapapa?

  • Travel by Plane
    • There are no air services to Whakapapa. Nearby Taupo Airport serves the region with daily Air New Zealand flights to and from New Zealand's major hubs. The airport is located about one hours’ drive away from Whakapapa.
  • Travel by Train
    • There are no train services to Whakapapa.
  • Travel by Bus
    • Whakapapa is well serviced by major inter-city bus networks and backpacker bus services travelling to the ski areas. Several scenic tour buses and passenger shuttles also provide transportation to Whakapapa.
  • Rent a Vehicle
    • There are limited rental car options in the Ruapehu region. Nearby Taupo offers multiple options for rental cars and motorhomes.
