Waimate

The small town of Waimate is known for its wallabies; small, kangaroo-like marsupials introduced in the 1800s. Whilst they can be viewed in captivity in town, wallabies are considered a pest by locals and wallaby hunting is popular. Other Waimate attractions include parks, walking and biking tracks and the annual Strawberry Fare celebration.
