Timaru

Timaru (originally 'Te Maru' - 'place of shelter') is the Central South Island's main service centre. During the summer months this seaside city heats up with visitors flocking to the central sandy swimming beach of Caroline Bay and the annual Caroline Bay Carnival. Shopping, gardens and one of New Zealand's top art galleries are also big attractions.
